Kazuo Ishii was
born in Japan
in 1957. He started practicing calligraphy at an early age under the guidance
of his uncle, who was a master in this field. After his studies and graduation
from Waseda University
in Tokyo, Kazuo
studied calligraphy and seal making with Master Li Yang Sheng, and ink painting
with Master Yan Si Lung. He studied and practiced Japanese martial arts and Zen
meditation, which became an integral part of his lifestyle. With his master he
visited China
and studied its traditional arts. He came to Israel with his family in 1997 and
settled in Kiryat Tivon. Ishii creates and teaches Japanese Art and practices
in various academic and art institutions in Israel. He founded the Shiboku
Studio and workshop where he works and teaches his art. His works have been
exhibited in many individual and group exhibitions worldwide, and can be found
in prestigious public and private collections, including that of the Israel Museum.
